You Have to Give an Acount
Matthew 25:14-30 presents the Parable of the Bags of Gold, revealing a fundamental truth: God watches every little thing we do. Obedience matters.
In Luke 16:1-2, Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.'"
This parable introduces us to a critical Kingdom principle that illustrates how people will give an account of their management during their life on earth.
What Is Stewardship?
1 Corinthians 4:2 states: "Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."
The Greek word for stewardship is oikonomia—to be a manager of a household, a household steward.
Here's the truth you must understand: God owns your house.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 declares: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
Stewardship Is Trust, Not Ownership
Matthew 25:14 says: "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them."
Everything in the Kingdom is entrusted, nothing is owned. Faithfulness does not require a feeling. We are to be faithful regardless of our feelings which can be successful in blocking our obedience if we permit.
Stewardship Is About Capacity
How much can God entrust you with? When God speaks to you about releasing something, it is usually because He plans to replace or replenish it with more than before.
What you steward stays and remains. When you faithfully steward, provision comes to you. You don't chase it. God has His own economic system. His currency is faith. The enemy is a thief.
Faithful stewardship initiates a divine flow from Heaven into your hands.
Faithful Stewardship Is Intentional, Not Emotional
Faithful stewardship is NOT emotional. It is NOT impulsive. It is intentional.
For example: When you receive money, the first thing you do in recognition of God is to set aside the 10%.
God does not increase what leaks. God does not establish what is mishandled.
Are you trustworthy? What matters most is what you do behind closed doors. Anyone can go to church.
Increase follows stewardship, not desire. Faithfulness is consistent, responsible stewardship management—every day, a daily lifestyle.
Faithfulness is proved by how you handle what is already in your possession, not by what you pray for.
God Is Looking for Faithfulness
God is looking for faithfulness on the earth. He is watching every move we make, listening to every prayer we pray, every tear we cry. He observes how we manage opportunities, instructions, time, and money.
Will you be found faithful?
Matthew 25:21 proclaims: "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"
God examines how we manage what is in our hands. God is a God of order, not disorder. He is a rewarder of righteousness. He is a rewarder of faithfulness.
2 Chronicles 16:9 tells us: "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him."
Order Precedes Blessing
If your life is out of order, how can God bless you with more?
For someone listening right now: If the blessing you are desiring came right now, it would crush you because you are not in order. You are not capable to contain it. God desires to bless His people and waits for us to get in order so we can manage or contain the increase.
If your boat can't contain more fish, why have a bigger net?
If small things are mishandled, then obviously large things will be dangerous or even threatening in your hands.
Mismanagement delays God's establishment.
You cannot get excited for the new year, celebrate, and pray for increase, but if you are not able to obey and make changes, you will experience delay. God will bless you, but YOU need to conform to His Word.
1 Samuel 15:22 reminds us: "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams."
Pressure vs. Peace
When you fail to receive your blessing, most people will feel stress—pressure instead of peace.
God does not accelerate disorder. Pressure will cause people to tap into demonic vices. Meanwhile, the pressure came from the enemy, and it will cause them to turn to dark things.
God entrusts according to maturity, not hunger.
Many say, "If I had more, I would give to the church." But God looks at what you're doing with what you have now.
Mature stewardship always does the right thing, the God way— with what's been entrusted.
God Establishes Those Who Can Be Trusted Without Supervision
When He speaks to you, you know what you need to do. Will you do it? Do you doubt? Do you delay? Do you ignore it?
Maturity handles accountability without offense.
You do not get offended. You are mature. You can handle correction without offense, correction without resistance.
Matthew 19:16-24 tells the story of the rich young ruler. He was sad—perhaps he was offended. He scattered.
Offense makes people divide and run away. If you are one to take offense and can't make a change, you will limit the hand of God in your life.
Matthew 18:7 warns: "Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!"
You Reap What You Sow
2 Corinthians 9:6 declares: "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously."
Sow bountifully, reap bountifully.
Galatians 6:7-9 adds: "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
If you don't sow, why would you expect to reap?
Stewardship Is Not Generosity—It Is Obedience
Stewardship is alignment with Heaven's intent.
Heaven has things that need to be done in your life.
Psalm 24:1 proclaims: "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it."
Stewardship is not a decision; the decision is how well of a steward will you be found.
Heaven assigns purpose for provision.
When stewardship aligns with God's intent, then increase becomes natural.
God Is Not a Man That He Should Lie
Numbers 23:19 confirms: "God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?"
Faithful stewardship is not negotiable. God does not want you to be small. Align.
Giving Is a Revealer of Who Governs Your Life
Giving is a test of governance. Are you governing you or is Christ in you governor?
God does not need money. He is not in debt. He is not behind on bills. He has no lack. He is rather measuring our obedience and trust.
When the Lord speaks, get into the habit of doing it immediately.
Harvest does not come to the careless; it comes to the deliberate. God loves a cheerful giver, not an emotional giver. Cheerfulness flows.
Trustworthiness Determines Increase
Luke 16:10-12 teaches: "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?"
God examines your faithfulness with what you already have. Your promotion depends on how you steward today.
God Did Not Create You to Be Empty
Isaiah 45:18 declares: "For this is what the Lord says—he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—he says: 'I am the Lord, and there is no other.'"
God formed you to be inhabited by His presence, His purpose, His provision. You were not created for emptiness—you were created for increase.
The Question Remains: Will You Be Found Faithful?
Divine alignment begins with faithful stewardship. It's not about how much you want. It's about how well you manage what you have.
God is watching. Heaven is measuring. Your increase is waiting on the other side of your obedience.
